The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) provides proof that individuals working on construction sites have the necessary training and qualifications to carry out their work. We offer the full range of CITB Health, Safety & Environment tests at our purpose built testing centre.
There have been some changes to the process for getting your CSCS Card over the last year but for everything apart from the process to obtain your Basic Green Labourer’s Card the system has not fundamentally changed – you book the relevant CITB Test, take the test, pass it and apply for the relevant CSCS Card. The CITB will decide which card you are eligible for when you apply (you can apply by telephone, email or post). You can check here for an idea of the the card you need – The right CSCS Card for you
The test will cost you £42. When booking an appointment, you’ll be asked few questions such as full name and address, D.O.B, NI number and a contact number. To book an appointment, simply call us on 01373 464878 or email at email@example.com
However, since the 1st of July 2014 the process you have to go through to gain your CSCS Green Labourer’s Card has been changed. If you do not have a relevant Level 1 Award (or equivalent) or are not a member of a CITB approved association then you will need to go through one more stage.
How to obtain your CSCS (Green) Labourer’s Card under the new rules (effective from July 1st 2014).
Initially, you need to pass a CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test (or have passed one within the last 2 years) and already have one or more of the following:
- An NVQ in a construction related subject
- A relevant IOSH Health & Safety Qualification
- A Site Safety Plus Health & Safety Awareness Qualification
- Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment
If you do not have any of these then the quickest and most cost effective path to getting your CSCS (Green) Labourer’s Card is to take the 1 day Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment. This lasts for life once successfully completed (unlike the Site Safety Plus Health & Safety Awareness Qualification which has to be re-done every time you renew CSCS Card) and can be achieved in 1 day. In fact, it can be achieved in as little as 6 guided learning hours, depending on your experience.
Go to our Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment page for more details.
We run the 1 day Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment course once a month – see our course calendar for the next available dates. For those who do not have a CITB Health, safety and Environment Test pass we offer a full package that will cover everything you need to obtain your CSCS Green Labourer’s Card – the cost is £199.00 (+VAT). For those who have a valid CITB Health, safety and Environment Test pass within the last 2 years and only need the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment to allow them to apply for their CSCS Green Labourer’s Card the cost is £175.00 (+VAT).
Applying for cards
To apply for a CSCS card you need to prove you have the training and qualifications required to carry out your job. The type of work you do and your qualifications or membership of professional bodies will determine which type of CSCS card you should apply for.
To apply for your own CSCS card you need to check which card is the right one for you and the job that you do by using the online cardfinder. This will also tell you which type of CITB Health, Safety and Environment test you need to take.
Once you have passed the correct test, please call the CSCS Contact Centre on 0344 994 4777. Before you ring please ensure you have:
- a credit or debit card to pay £30 for the card
- your current or previous employer’s details including contact name, company name and telephone number
- checked the requirements for the type of card you are applying for. For example, you may need to email us copies of your qualifications. If you do not have this information when you call, it may delay your application.
Your card will usually be dispatched on the next working day.
Alternatively you can download an application form, complete it and return it with the required documentation and payment. Please note that postal applications can take up to 15 working days.
Now before booking an appointment to take your CITB Health, Safety & Environment test we strongly advise you take some time in revising. There are plenty of revision material online or you can even download apps on your smartphone. If you can’y get any access to those you can also buy books/DVDs from your local shops such as WH Smith.
